Hugo McCloud is a contemporary artist who takes a multidisciplinary approach to painting, sculpture, and mixed media, often using raw materials such as tar, aluminum, and plastic bags, which he transforms into traditional portraits. McCloud’s still-life floral paintings are a lesson: not everything is always as it seems. The works are made through a unique process in which McCloud collages thousands of pieces of hued plastics to create a single composition. The works show how beauty can still be found in the wake of destruction, and examine the environmental impact of plastic, showing how humans can still find ways to connect to their environment even in the midst of climate change.
