About

Los Angeles based artist Geoff McFetridge (b. 1971) moves seamlessly between graphic design, fine art, and psychology. Known for his clean lines and flattened color fields, McFetridge uses simplified forms to explore interior states and emotional landscapes. He notably shaped the visual identity of Spike Jonze’s film Her (2013), creating a near future world both familiar and strange.

Outside Experience presents a quiet meditation on refuge and connection. The figures nestle not in architecture but within the body of an animal; offering shelter that is ancient, soft, and breathing. These forms are metaphors for memory, instinct, and belonging, reminding us how to be still and held by something greater.

The work gestures toward ecological intimacy, not as salvation but shared vulnerability. It reflects the permeable boundaries between human and earth, between presence and what lies beneath. Through this work, we can feel the essence of the show where we must find the right balance to coexist with Mother Nature vs destroying it.

McFetridge has been included in museum exhibitions at the Vancouver Art Gallery, Vancouver; Contemporary Calgary, Calgary; the Santa Monica Museum of Art, Santa Monica; the Walker Art Center, Minneapolis; the Yale University Art Museum, New Haven; Museum of African American Art (MAAA), and The Geffen Contemporary at MoCA; Los Angeles.
