Edward Hopper

About

Edward Hopper was a Realist painter whose depictions of American life, often featuring isolated and sparse figures and scenes, depicted themes of tranquility and introspection with nature. Hopper’s work was primarily inspired by two main environments: downtown New York City, where he lived in an apartment near Washington Square Park from 1913 until his death in 1967; and Cape Cod, where he also lived and worked. Longnook Valley depicts a beach on Cape Cod, painted in 1934, the year he purchased his home there.
