About

Dinos Chapman (b. 1962) is a British artist known for his confrontational, surreal, and often darkly satirical works that probe the absurdities of culture, power, and morality. A key member of the Young British Artists (YBA) movement, Chapman emerged in the 1990s alongside his brother Jake. Today, his solo practice continues to push boundaries across painting, sculpture, digital media, and sound.

In Horror (2022–23), Chapman stages a bleakly whimsical vision: a group of cartoonish rabbits silently regard a blazing sunset, pierced by the word “HORROR” painted across the sky. Both playful and menacing, the painting melds childhood iconography with existential dread, reflecting the dissonance of contemporary life. Through the stillness of the animal witnesses and the flaming horizon, Chapman evokes climate catastrophe, political polarization, and cultural paralysis with grim humor and theatrical tension.

This work exemplifies Chapman’s ongoing use of grotesque allegory to critique the systems we inhabit. Behind the image lies a meditation on powerlessness, complicity, and the surrealism of modern existence.

Chapman’s solo works have been featured in exhibitions at White Cube (London), KÖNIG GALERIE (Berlin), and PinchukArtCentre (Kyiv). His work resides in prominent collections, including the Tate (London), the Museum of Modern Art (New York), and the Fondation Pinault (Venice), affirming his enduring cultural relevance and critical acclaim.
